Since I have become passionate about the enjoyment of audio books I look forward to relaxation and easy listening.

I was an avid book reader prior to being introduced to enjoying audio books. As I am not a fast reader I am particularly enjoying being able to read my books in a shorter timeframe.

Reading and enjoying audio books is not too different to listening to music. I enjoy the animated voices telling the story. I feel that I am there not just reading about it.

Audio Books are very addictive, especially during holiday time when I have time to chill out, relax, enjoy a wine and the excitement of someone reading to me.

Besides the above I have found there are many benefits to enjoying audio books.

Physical books are usually more expensive than audio books.

When purchasing a downloadable audio book it is available immediately.

I can enjoy my downloadable audio book on my mp3 player or iPod. I sometimes write them to a CD. It is a matter of personal choice.

I am able to have great fun with my grandchildren. Just watching them as they listen to audio books gives me great pleasure. They really get involved in the story and so do I. The books almost come to life as they are read.

I always carry some audio books on CD in my car for when I am travelling either alone or have my grandchildren with me.

Because I can listen to an audio book anywhere at anytime I am able to read more books. This I really enjoy as I lead a very busy lifestyle.

Old habits die hard, they say. How right they are.

I am a novel freak and have been since the 4th grade when I read an amazing novel that started me down the road of reading.

I continued this craze for reading right into college and even early in my career. I didn't quit even when I got married and had my first beautiful daughter.

But as you would expect, as I climb higher in my career and the kids increase from 1 to 3, I am beginning to have less time to spend doing what I loved so much - reading novels.

Being a die-hard at anything I do, I continued to read novels.

Sadly, it was starting to take me 3 months to read just one novel, instead of the 3 or so hours it used to take me when I had more time.

I would read a chapter on one day and then put the novel aside.

In two weeks time, when I had some free time on my hands, I would read another chapter. Then it would be another 2 or 3 weeks before I could read another. And so on, until I would finish just one novel.

I didn't like this and knew that there had to be a better way of STILL getting the value of a novel in the same 3 hours it used to take me, instead of the 3 months it now takes me to finish just one novel.

I started asking for a way out.

Thankfully, I found one...

Audio books!

I simply buy the novel I want to buy, not in hardcover or paperback, but in audio book format - containing the exact same content of the novel in spoken-word!
Now I don't have the limitations I used to have with "reading"
my favorite novels.

In the morning while doing my chores of exercising, making breakfast, dressing up for work, etc, I listen to my novel in audio book format. While commuting to work, I continue from where I stopped. During break at work, I also listen. And before driving back home from work, I complete the remaining part of the novel.

Total time spent - about 4 hours for each novel.

Phew... how I love audio books for saving me so much time, yet I'm still getting the same value!

Maybe it isn’t even an escape at all – in reality stories about terrorism, betrayals, murders, assassinations and torture are shown to us daily by the media. The reality of these news stories often overtakes the imagination of the thriller authors.

If the reality is often worse than the thriller stories why do we still read or listen to them?

Is it because the choices we made in our lives? Luckily these choices have turned out okay most of the time, but some of these choices could have easily ended nasty. We may have had some close encounters of which we later think “that was a stupid thing to do”.

Whatever it is, the wrong choices sure make good thriller stories. They keep us at the edge of our seat for hours.

I asked some of my friends why they are hooked on thrillers. Here are some of their answers.

Thrillers increase my adrenaline level I want to know what happens next, and next, and next, driving the suspense and my heart rate up.

I lose myself in thrillers after I have done some strenuous mental work and after sitting in a comfortable chair listening to an audio thriller I feel refreshed.

It is the complexities to the ideas of the actions and a plot with a dramatic twist in the end.

The dangerous and high-speed actions, the risks, the skills and the successful solving of the problem in the end.

The relationship between the characters and a rapid succession of events that drive up the suspense and my pulse.

It is interesting that since what happens in real life is often worse than the thrillers, we still can’t get enough of the horror and suspense in our lives. We would like to hear from you what gets you hooked on thrillers.

Whatever it is that gets me hooked I’ll never let an opportunity pass to listen to a good audio thriller.

You see, my work is one that requires a lot of my timeinvolvement. I have to leave home quite early, spend over an hour on the road because of the constant heavy traffic and when I get to work, I work all day until break time and closing time.

From what this friend of mine explained to me, I knew I hadto give audio books a try.
I did and was very impressed.

Now, I can proudly say I also benefit from the reading of up to 50 books each year.

We have a lot to be grateful for when talking about technology.
Who would have ever believed that not only would we cut down on the way we use up our vegetation for making hardcover and paperback books, we would also be able to "listen" to our books instead of "reading" them as much or as little as we please.

Ironic? Not with the introduction of audio books.

With audio books, we now have the unique advantage of doing other things that take up our hands, but not our minds. We can now do things like household chores, exercise, etc while still having the book read to us.

More people are embracing the wonders of audio books and are buying their favorite books in audio book version instead of hard copy books.

If you are considering buying an audio book, below are 6 of the great places you can enjoy an audio book:

1--In bed - There are certain days when we just don't want to do anything but lie down in bed and have a break or rest from the outside world (or maybe due to illness you must rest extensively). We may also just want to lie down in the dark until we fall off to sleep.
